Many photographers begin their careers taking portraits of families. For me it's been a far more roundabout path. Ultimately, it was meeting a lovely baby girl that led me to family portraiture.

It will sound like I’m boasting (and I am) - but I’ve had a pretty amazing career. I’ve worked at the top level of the industry (or maybe just a rung below) all throughout.

I had my first industry award for photography at the tender age of 19, for shooting catalogue for David Jones - a feat that’s unlikely to be matched by anyone so young anytime soon. From that flying start, a multitude of campaigns and books that I’ve shot have won awards in an unusually broad range of categories - including food, catalogue, industrial, automotive, entertainment, and portraiture.

By the age of 30 I was judged by my peers to be the Australian Professional Photographer Awards “Advertising and Fashion Photographer of the Year”. That’s essentially the pinnacle of my industry. OK, I was second place - but it’s getting so long ago that no one remembers... and in all fairness I should have won...

Conveniently to my sales pitch - the most recent boast-worthy accolade is a Silver Lion at Cannes 2019 (the advertising equivalent of an Oscars), for a series or portraits that I shot. Needless to say I’ve been shamelessly slipping that bit of news in whenever possible - like I am right now. I've possibly mentioned it to confused and disinterested strangers in the street...

Despite these many highs - about 18 months ago I discovered an area of photography that was far more rewarding than I could've previously imagined. It was the joy that I got photographing my baby daughter with my wife. Yes, the lovely baby girl that changed the direction of my career - was my own daughter. Meeting her made me realise just how important it is to capture our families.

What you get with a portrait session with me is three decades of experience at the very highest levels of photography. Fresh, natural, and brilliant photography - masterfully captured. And don’t forget - you can oh-so-casually drop into conversation that the guy who shot your family photos just won a Silver Lion at Cannes! ;)
